Recruiters told our son all kinds of falsehoods to get him to sign up for the Army, ie… that he would have a 75% of passing the horrendously, designed-to-fail 18X Program; that there would be time for him to get college credit while in the Army; and lots of other fibs that we gullibly believed. And, of course, we believed our son would be “defending the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic” Oath; not fighting against a country that did not attack America. These recruiting tactics that take advantage of the courage, honor and trust of our young people need to be exposed. We need to warn families that the pro-war leaders do not have the safety of our young men and women at heart. Our leaders have put our troops in danger in the midst of enemies! and have left them there, with no hope of taking them out.

In today’s Oregonian (6/19/07), there is a little blurb in the Clackamas Metro section (page C3) about a “Salute to Soldiers” being hosted by local US Army recruiters this coming Saturday, June 23, from noon to 4:00 at Clackamette Park in Oregon City. Here’s a quote:

“The event…will honor Portland-area residents who joined the Army. In addition to live music, free food, outdoor games and a rock-climbing wall, visitors can have a virtual Army experience by trying an interactive multimedia “future soldier trainer” program.”

How ironically sad that this appears in the same paper that announces: 100th Oregon death. Do you think these recruiters will tell intended victims about the potential exposure to (warning: graphic video!) Depleted Uranium? I think not.

Please gather with us at the intersection of Hwy 99E just south of the Clackamas river bridge at noon. Bring signs, some will be available. Please be respectful to military members and families (some will be joining us) — we are not protesting them, but the leadership that makes them pawns. Bring your still and/or video cameras to inhibit any trouble from the pro-war people that attend this recruiting party. Please don’t block any vehicular or pedestrian traffic. If you should receive negative comments or gestures, please return them with a wave and a smile.

Please consider joining our protest beginning at Noon til 4:00pm. Or come at any time between, but stay as long as you can. We need many of you out there.

Let’s do our part to help cut the flow of Bush’s Targets.
