Bob Watada speaking in Bend September 12
Published by admin September 6th, 2006 in eventsBob WATADA, former Executive Director of State Campaign Spending System in Hawaii and father of Lt. Ehren WATADA, will be speaking on TUESDAY, September 12th at CENTRAL OREGON COMMUNITY COLLEGE, Boyle Education Center Room 155, Bend Oregon from 7:00-8:30 p.m.
Lt. Ehren WATADA has served for 3 years in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea and at Ft. Lewis, WA. In January 2006 he asked for permission to resign his commission based on the understanding that the war in Iraq is illegal, and that any order to participate in that war would be an illegal order. He didn’t apply for conscientious objector status and isn’t opposed to all wars; however he believes that the war in Iraq is illegal and is willing to be court martialed and risk imprisonment for his beliefs. When Lt. WATADA’s unit deployed to Iraq he simply refused to go with them based on his understanding of refusing to take part in illegal wars.
The meeting is free and open to the public. For more information on this event please contact Philip Randall at 388-1793 or phil -at- tiedyed.us.
